Meet Gretchen
What I’ve learned about myself is that I love to work with smart people. More than that, I love to support smart people with big, bold, audacious goals to make the world a better place.
For more than two decades, I've partnered with practitioner-scholars as they navigate some of the most important transitions of their professional lives. While many people first come to me for dissertation editing, they often discover they're gaining something much more valuable: a trusted thought partner who can help them transform ideas into meaningful impact.
My clients rely on me to be meticulous. Drawing on experience in academia, industry, nonprofit organizations, and community-based research, I help scholars strengthen their research design, sharpen their arguments, deepen their analysis, and communicate their ideas with clarity and confidence. Along the way, we often explore additional research, emerging literature, and the broader implications of their work. More than one doctoral candidate has joked that I became an "unofficial member" of their dissertation committee, and one affectionately dubbed me the "MacGyver of Academic Writing."
But my work has never been only about producing an exceptional dissertation.
As a professionally trained coach with more than twenty years of experience in leadership, organizational development, and personal transformation, I help practitioner -scholars think beyond graduation. Together, we explore how a dissertation can become a book, how research can influence practice, how expertise can grow into consulting or speaking opportunities, and how a doctoral degree can become the foundation for a lifetime of meaningful contribution.
That philosophy has naturally evolved into the Practice Partners Collective, a professional home for educator-scholars who want to continue learning, collaborating, writing, and leading long after their dissertation is complete. Whether we're discussing research design, preparing for an interview, navigating a leadership challenge, developing a professional presence, or imagining what's next, my role remains the same: helping thoughtful educators transform their knowledge into lasting impact.
Because I've never believed we are simply scholars, authors, or leaders. We are whole people. Our work, relationships, aspirations, and challenges are deeply interconnected. The most meaningful professional journeys honor all of them.
On a personal note, I’ve lived in five countries, nine states, 26 cities, and countless homes. I’ve visited another 13 countries and 38 states plus Washington DC and Puerto Rico. I am addicted to lifelong learning and read very widely. This has gifted me with broad perspectives, a soft spot for clients who are not native English speakers, and a strong commitment to social-justice work.
My clients know me as a multi-faceted person. I am a long-time Buddhist, so it’s not uncommon for me to offer some wisdom around stress management, meditation, and mindfulness. Before the pandemic I was a comedy performer, so you can be sure that I will try to make you laugh when the going gets tough. It’s my belief that this diverse set of trainings, experiences, and perspectives are what allow me to work with the whole person, not just the academic who needs an APA expert.
