Original Belonging

Original Belonging explores what it means to remember that we were never separate—from ourselves, from one another, from the living Earth, or from the Sacred.

I write about identity and becoming, grief and reclamation, story and memory, the wisdom of the natural world, and the ways we find our way home to ourselves and into deeper relationship with the world around us.

These essays are not prescriptions or tidy answers. They emerge from lived experience, years of reflection, and an evolving body of ideas that continues to deepen and change over time. Some begin with a moment in my own life. Others begin with a question, a book, a walk in the woods, a conversation, or something happening in the wider world. Together, they are an ongoing exploration of belonging—not as something we earn or find, but as something we remember.

A note about my writing process: I write every post myself. I use ChatGPT as an editorial thought partner, not a ghostwriter—to strengthen clarity, identify shifts in tone, catch broad generalizations, and notice where an idea or argument could be more fully developed. At times, I ask it for questions or bullet points that help me think more deeply. AI is one of the tools I use in my writing practice to make my work clearer and more useful to readers.

A Cosmology of Belonging

A Cosmology of Belonging: restoring kinship with Self, others, the living Earth, and the Sacred—Especially for women, belonging is inextricably tied to conforming. The more we conform, the more we are rewarded for supporting the world as it is—business as usual. We’re rewarded for not making waves. For not asking for too much. For not taking up too much space. Regardless of whether or not these choices support our becoming.

Why do we do things that harm us? That limit our ability to achieve our full potential? That cause deep dissatisfaction and unhappiness?

Because the more we conform, the more we are told we belong.
